First Night at Base Camp

The first evening at Base Camp found the team sleeping in a tent for the first time during the trip. It was a challenge in itself as temperatures dropped to -15 degrees, ice was inside their tents, their water bottles froze up and they had very little sleep.

Fusion CEO and Everest Rugby Challenger Jay O’Malley said “Not the best night sleep of my life, I’ve ice on my sleeping bag, frozen water bottles and snow in my tent. What keeps me going is the children we are helping doing this, any hardship I have for a short time is nothing.

The LMAX Exchange Everest Rugby Challenge is in aid of  Wooden Spoon – The children’s charity of rugby.

The challenge takes place across 24 days (13 April to 6 May 2019) and will see the group battle acclimatisation and heights of 6,500 metres to play the highest game of full contact rugby and the highest game of mixed rugby in history – all in support of Wooden Spoon.
